What are the skills for grades Kindergarten to Grade 6?
All students work on the "Basic Movement Skills" according to the Physical Education Guidelines.
The Manipulation Skills are: Catching, Overhand Throwing, Underhand Throwing, Rolling, Striking, Kicking and Bouncing.
The Transport Skills are: Hopping, Skipping, Running, Galloping and Jumping.
The Balance Skills are: Dynamic and Static Balance.
The Provincial Report Card Standard Outcomes are recognized according to Movement, Fitness Management and Healthy Lifestyles. Students will be assessed on these outcomes throughout the school year.
MOVEMENT
Displays behaviors that show responsibility (for example listens and follows directions, respects others equipment, follows safety rules and routines.
Shows an understanding of the concepts related to basic movement, movement development, activity specific movement, physical activity risk management, teamwork and fair play.
Demonstrates safe and functional use of selected movement skills in sports and games, alternative pursuits, and rhythmic/gymnastics activities.
FITNESS MANAGEMENT
Shows an understanding of the concepts related to fitness components, fitness benefits, fitness development.
Actively and safely participates in activities that enhance general fitness and aerobic capacity.
Understands and demonstrates fitness management skills and strategies for the development of physical activity habits and personal fitness.
What does a Health Class Look Like?
All grades will have one health class per cycle. The classes will be held in the gymnasium with Mrs. Hunter. She will keep all Health Portfolios making sure students sees and celebrate their "health successes" of the gym. Many of the health outcomes are intertwined with the Physical Education Outcomes set out by the Department of Education. The Report Card Outcome is listed as "Healthy Lifestyle" and is described below.
HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
Shows an understanding of curriculum related concepts, practices, responsibilities associated with major health issues.
Shows an understanding of personal and social management concepts and skills that promote well-being, healthy choices, cooperation with others and healthy relationships.
What are the attitude/behavior skills for student in grades Kindergarten to Grade 6?
All students are encouraged to follow the safety rules and routines for active participation in class. All students are encouraged to display behaviors that show social responsibility, respect for others, fair play and sportsmanship in class. All students are expected and encouraged to follow RHS's GOLDEN RULES in the gym.
